Era una maravillosa ciudad construido en medio del lago Texcoco, sobre una isleta. All\u00ed, seg\u00fan la leyenda, se hab\u00eda encontrado un \u00e1guila posada sobre un nopal, en el momento en que devoraba una serpiente (cuadro que aparece en el escudo de M\u00e9xico).<\/p>\n<p>Tenochtitl\u00e1n estaba comunicada con la tierra firme por medio de cuatro grandes v\u00edas. Ten\u00eda calles rectil\u00edneas, canales, amplias casas, palacios, etc. La ciudad azteca qued\u00f3 pr\u00e1cticamente destruida cuando fue tomada por los espa\u00f1oles en 1520. Los canales fueron cegados para permitir la entrada de la artiller\u00eda pesada espa\u00f1ola, y las casas y los monumentos fueron destrozados.
