Drake, en 1578, fue el primero en doblarlo.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Escollos, baj\u00edos, vientos huracanados, lluvias y nieve durante casi todo el a\u00f1o, y una espesa bruma cuando las tempestades calmaban, convert\u00edan a aquel cabo en un lugar impracticable, incluso para los m\u00e1s experimentados<\/p>\n<p>navegantes. Los naufragios estaban a la orden del d\u00eda. Por ello, se convirti\u00f3 en signo de suerte y pericia entre la mariner\u00eda haber logrado cruzar con vida aquel infierno. Orgullosos de ello, y para que la haza\u00f1a quedara reflejada de por vida, los marineros, comerciantes, piratas y corsarios se colgaban en una de las orejas un pendiente en forma de aro.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 A este distintivo se pod\u00edan unir otros dos, que simbolizaban el paso por el cabo de Buena Esperanza, al sur de \u00c1frica, y el de York, en Ocean\u00eda.
