El brit\u00e1nico Archibald Vivian Hill desarroll\u00f3 una atracci\u00f3n inmensa por el atletismo que, parad\u00f3jicamente, le hizo convertirse en 1922 en ganador del Premio Nobel de Fisiolog\u00eda y Medicina de forma compartida con Otto Meyerhof.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;104 a\u00f1os despu\u00e9s, Vivian Hill es considerado como uno de los padres de la medicina deportiva y la fisiolog\u00eda por los descubrimientos que hizo en ese campo de actuaci\u00f3n. De hecho, el premio otorgado por la Asamblea del Nobel en el Instituto Karolinska lo recibi\u00f3 por encontrar la manera de medir el calor producido por los m\u00fasculos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Hill entendi\u00f3 que los m\u00fasculos transforman la energ\u00eda qu\u00edmica que les proporciona el organismo en trabajo mec\u00e1nico y calor. Muy popular es su Ecuaci\u00f3n de Hill, que representa que, a mayor carga levantada, menor velocidad de contracci\u00f3n muscular. Tanto en el proceso de contracci\u00f3n como tiempo despu\u00e9s de cesar en su actividad, el m\u00fasculo experimenta cambios de temperatura, lo que demuestra que se recargan despu\u00e9s del esfuerzo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Para explicar esto, Hill compar\u00f3 los m\u00fasculos con un coche. El coraz\u00f3n y los pulmones vendr\u00edan a ser como una bomba de gasolina. Si el motor pide m\u00e1s de lo que la bomba le puede dar, el sistema colapsa y el coche se para o se estropea. Sucede algo similar cuando el organismo llega a su volumen m\u00e1ximo de ox\u00edgeno, un eslab\u00f3n que no se puede superar y que acerca al cuerpo a su l\u00edmite.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;El cient\u00edfico introdujo tambi\u00e9n el concepto de deuda de ox\u00edgeno. \u201cEl cuerpo es capaz de endeudarse para hacer ejercicio y pagarlo despu\u00e9s\u201d, pronunci\u00f3 resaltando c\u00f3mo los m\u00fasculos gastan una energ\u00eda que todav\u00eda no tienen a trav\u00e9s de la v\u00eda anaer\u00f3bica que, m\u00e1s tarde, se recupera mientras se oxida el lactato y se restaura el gluc\u00f3geno.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;La figura de Hill es todav\u00eda m\u00e1s relevante si tenemos en cuenta que aprovech\u00f3 su fama para salvar a muchos compa\u00f1eros cient\u00edficos a huir de campos de concentraci\u00f3n durante la Segunda Guerra Mundial -18 de ellos fueron
