Cole, un joven ingl\u00e9s del siglo XI que desarrolla una extraordinaria vocaci\u00f3n por la medicina.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Rob Cole queda hu\u00e9rfano siendo ni\u00f1o y descubre que posee una capacidad especial para percibir cu\u00e1ndo una persona est\u00e1 cerca de morir. Tras la muerte de sus padres, queda bajo el cuidado de un cirujano-barbero que recorre Inglaterra tratando enfermedades y realizando operaciones rudimentarias.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Durante sus viajes, Rob conoce las enormes limitaciones de la medicina europea medieval. Tambi\u00e9n descubre que en Persia existe una medicina mucho m\u00e1s avanzada, especialmente en la escuela de Ispah\u00e1n, dirigida por el c\u00e9lebre m\u00e9dico Avicena (Ibn Sina).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Deseoso de aprender, Rob emprende un extraordinario viaje desde Inglaterra hasta Persia. Para poder ingresar a la escuela m\u00e9dica, debe ocultar su identidad y hacerse pasar por jud\u00edo, pues las restricciones religiosas y pol\u00edticas de la \u00e9poca le impedir\u00edan estudiar all\u00ed como cristiano.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">En Ispah\u00e1n, Rob se convierte en disc\u00edpulo de Avicena y entra en contacto con conocimientos muy superiores a los que hab\u00eda conocido en Europa: anatom\u00eda, diagn\u00f3stico, cirug\u00eda, higiene y observaci\u00f3n sistem\u00e1tica de los enfermos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Pero su formaci\u00f3n no es solamente acad\u00e9mica. Rob debe enfrentarse a guerras, epidemias, conflictos religiosos, diferencias culturales, amor, ambici\u00f3n y dilemas \u00e9ticos. Aprende que ser m\u00e9dico no significa solamente dominar conocimientos cient\u00edficos, sino asumir una enorme responsabilidad frente al sufrimiento humano.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">El libro puede entenderse como una gran reflexi\u00f3n sobre la b\u00fasqueda del conocimiento. Rob est\u00e1 dispuesto a recorrer miles de kil\u00f3metros y arriesgar su vida para aprender y ayudar a otros.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Tambi\u00e9n plantea una pregunta muy interesante:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u00bfHasta d\u00f3nde puede llegar una persona cuando tiene una verdadera vocaci\u00f3n y est\u00e1 dispuesta a luchar por ella?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Uno de los grandes atractivos de la novela es que incorpora a Avicena, una figura hist\u00f3rica fundamental de la medicina medieval.
